Legitimate concerns can create a bias away from minimally disruptive care. This process can arise from patients, their families, Doctors and alternative practitioners. Often actions are taken in a "Just in case" fashion; actions always have a rate of failure, which in the "Just in case" scenario is often higher than the rate of success. The misleading result of an action can escalate to another "just in case" action. e.g. A patient with minor symptoms is concerned they have cancer, has a blood test which is positive, but they are relieved when further testing gives them the all clear. A few months later the symptoms return. The patient thinks "I must have cancer now, the Dr thought I did before, that's why they did the tests" The health consultant can assist you in expanding your understanding, so do not brush these uncertainties under the carpet.
There is a wealth of literature on medicalisation with some even suggesting that the world would be a better place without the medical profession, who cause more harm than good and render people lifelong patients. The health consultant is rather less radical and believes that individuals require some extra support to retain their focus on health when Doctors need to focus on illness. By focusing on health the health consultant balances the effects of the medical process. The term "National Health Service" would suggest that good intentions are there, but ofcourse health is not sufficiently addressed through the classification and control of disease.
Heavy treatment Burdens can result from accumulations of advice, investigations, medications and referrals to specialists. Many people have a difficult time balancing more than one medical condition and multiple trips to the hospital. Then they consult alternative practitioners and get a new raft of idea's and changes to add to their burdens. It can get to the point where you feel like ditching the whole lot. The health consultant can assist you in clarifying and managing your priorities, so do not bury your head in the sand.
